We’ll be supporting German/Swiss post-metal band THE OCEAN this Sunday at the Rosemount. It’s our last show in a while, as we will be taking a break to write a bunch of new stuff.

The Ocean (GER) - Perth - May 27

We are delighted to announce that we’ll be supporting German prog/post metal legends, The Ocean, at the Rosemount Hotel on May 27 2011.

We will be the only support band on the show and will play an epic 60 minute set. Nice! The Ocean have a reputation as an amazing live band, so don’t miss this!

There is an interview with TToL in the last issue of ishoperth. For the uninitiated, ishoperth is a free weekly lifestyle magazine that usually looks at fashion, travel, food etc - but they are branching out to cover some music, focussing on inner city venues. We were very happy to be asked to be on the cover. The lovely Jo Campbell interviewed us and we spent an afternoon taking pictures in Northbridge. All our promo shots are quite serious… so it is surprising to see that they chose all the smiley shots for the mag! Something different ;)

March 9 2012 will see the Rosemount Hotel erupt in a night of epic, heavy progressive sounds.

Heading up the bill are Tangled Thoughts of Leaving and Chaos Divine, two bands who sound very different but share a lot in common. Both bands released acclaimed albums in 2011… and toured the east coast to a great response. Both outfits are riding high at the moment. Chaos Divine are fresh from playing the Big Day Out and guest hosting Triple J metal show, The Racket. TToL are on the cusp of releasing their debut album in Japan and announcing some more eastern states live action. Both bands are best experienced live at their most dangerous and dynamic.

Providing more than able support are the technical instrumental stylings of Prescient and incredibly dynamic prog-wizards Nexus.

Not a night to be missed if you are a fan of heavy progressive rock/metal!

Playing 2 WA shows with SLEEPMAKESWAVES

We are very pleased to announce that TToL will be playing the WA tour dates of our brothers, sleepmakeswaves.

We released a split-EP with smw in 2009, and have been trying to get them to WA ever since. We finally got to play with them on our national tour last year - in Brisbane and Sydney. The Sydney show goes down as one of our top 3 ever shows, it was just so good to share the stage with them in their hometown. So much mutual respect and so many high fives.

Not even the biggest admirer of Tangled Thought of Leaving’s (TToL) previous efforts, especially the band’s stellar contribution to the split with sleepmakeswaves, could have anticipated the glory of Deaden the Fields. The album is a breath of fresh air to the instrumental rock scene, a masterful combination of prog rock, jazz, noise, and glitch. From time to time, it focuses on the melody and repetition inherent of post-rock, but it succeeds brilliantly in balancing this with technical prowess without compromising mood and texture. The drumming is outrageously innovative, “Landmarks” and “They Found My Skull in the Nest of the Bird” are exceptional examples of such, and the piano lines are just as innovative and work as a solid backbone to the guitars and bass, which do a wonderful job in moving in their own trajectories without compromising the sound of the band as a coherent whole. In a little over sixty minutes of music contained within this album, there isn’t a moment that could be described as boring or generic, and the whole album plays out with such immaculate dynamism that it makes the whole experience a wonderful addition to one’s daily music rotation. TToL has proven yet again that Australia will never cease to present us with fantastic artists with the knack for experimentalism; 2011 might be over but you won’t have achieved full closure until you’ve listened to this album.

Sleepwell Records to Release 'Deaden the Fields' in Japan

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving are very excited to announce that our debut album, Deaden the Fields, will be released in Japan through Sleepwell Records in March. Sleepwell is the Japanese home to Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Hella, Zach Hill and and pasteur amongst others - making it the perfect home for TToL. Sleepwell’s sister label, Daymare Recordings, is the home to the mighty Boris, who TToL will be supporting at the Bakery, in Perth, on March 20, 2012.

The overseas release of Deaden the Fields is a dream come true for TToL - we are aiming to help promote the album with a Japanese Tour later in 2012.

To celebrate this awesome news, we will be doing a special double set show at The Bird on Thursday February 2. The Bird is a fantastic small venue on William St in Northbridge, so it should make for a very intimate show. Get down there early! Joining us will be our pals The Silent World.

Sorry about the late notice, but you wouldn’t have cared about it during xmas/new year anyway, right? We barely survived it ourselves.

There is still one more awesome band to be locked in, but this is a pretty damn cool lineup if we do say (you see why) so ourselves. We have never played with Apricot Rail before - just how it has never happened is beyond us, but its happening now!

We have some very cool news to announce soon. Deaden the Fields will be getting a release overseas - where and through whom you may ask? Well, that is for next time.

After a massive 2011, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving are poised to put the cue in the rack with their final headline show of the year. To say this has been a huge year for TToL would be massive understatement, with the release of their debut album “Deaden the Fields”, their first national tour and two wins in the WAM Song of the Year awards. To finish it off in style, TToL have one last night of glory planned at Amplifier Bar on Friday November 25.

Support comes from Wizard Sleeve, Mezzanine and The Moltens. Doors at 8pm, tickets on the door.

WAM Song of the Year - double victory!

We had a real great time at the WAM Song of the Year awards last night - taking home the awards for both the Experimental (They Found My Skull in the Nest of a Bird) and Heavy (Throw Us to the Wind) sections. Nice! This inspired great drinking.

The prize money should really help fast track putting together the next tour, which we are hoping will be in early 2012.

Speaking of tour, we will try and get a bit of live footage up from the September 2011 east coast tour tonight. There is some pretty cool stuff shot from the side of the stage that we think you will enjoy! Keep a look out for Ron smashing his forehead into his synth at the Sydney show and not missing a note. Unfortunately we didn’t capture the Luke hitting Andy in the face with his bass in Melbourne, the camera cut out only seconds short. Thanks Sony.
